Detailed Itinerary
Day 01 Leh to Martselang to Chogdo (3-4 Hrs)
After having Breakfast, drive to Martselang for an hour. After reaching there start walking for 2 hours until you reach Shang Sumdo. Again after two more hours of walk you will finally reach Chogdo. For the night you have to pitch camp and there is no better means than a cup of tea and your sleeping bag to suffice your day long travel.
Day 02 Chogdo – Shang Phu Via Gyuncho La (4600 m) – Camp at 4350 m in 6- 7 h.
From now on, we will follow a new and rarely traveled route through the valleys to the east of our objective. Today, we turn towards the west into a tributary valley that leads after a long and gradual ascent to the Gyuncho La. We have to search a spot for camping so for that we will descent a few meters bellow to establish our campsite.
Day 03: Shang Phu to Matho Phu via Shang La (4800 m) – 7 to 8 hours
Today, we will cross many spurs and minor passes with occasional views northwards towards the Indus Valley and the peaks beyond. We climb up to the Shang La and then descend to the Tokpo River. We will witness a bird eye view Stok view, Leh range, Khardungla and Changla. Afterwards we will trek downhill to a nice camping place.
Day 04 Matho Phu – Mato La (4820 m) –Stok Kangri Base Camp 4700 mt: 6 to 7 hours:
At the pass, colorful prayer flags flap in the wind, with the Zanskari range in the background. Afterwards, we descend steadily along the Zingchan River. We get great views towards the Stok summit and the Stok Kangri (6121m).
Day 05 Summit day (Approx. 8-9 hours to base-camp). Our route initially crosses scree and boulder slopes, and then leads to easy angled snow slopes, which require ice axe and crampons. The route is not difficult but at this altitude, it will be strenuous. From the summit of Stok Kangri (6116m), we should see as far as the Karakoram, the Pamirs and Tibet. If it’s warm enough we’ll rest and recover some energy on top before descending to base-camp.
Day 06 Stok Kangri Base Camp – Leh (5 h walk to Stok).
Today is the last day of your trekking, it is the day to head back Leh. You will walk from downhill through the wild gorge scenery. While waiting for the Jeep to drive you back Leh, visit Stok Palace and museum while we wait for our jeeps. We’ll drive an hour across the Indus valley surrounded by mountains with changing shapes and colors. You will finally spend your night at the comfy hotel.
